‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ Trailer Brings Back the Magic

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMay 30, 2019

Most kids remember The Dark Crystal as a weird puppet movie that was as entrancing as it was deeply confusing. Well, for those who always wanted to go back to the magic realm, Netflix’s first  trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a reassurance that we’ll all be heading back there real soon.

This new 10-episode series is a prequel to the original 1982 film, three Gelflings discover the secret behind the Skeksis’ power, and undertake a quest to start a rebellion and save the world.

This project as pulled a lot of big name stars. The main three Gelflings, Rian, Brea, and Deet, are played by Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel respectively . But on top of that, we’ve got Helena Bonham Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, and Andy Samberg.

You can tell from the trailers that this series is a labor of love, looking so much like Henson’s original with original puppet work and gorgeous scenery. Many fans are pleased with this final look, and are anxiously looking forward to see the final product. And hey, if you’re new to the world of Dark Crystal, then this could be a great chance to learn the lore and get invested. I know I’m certainly going to take advantage of it.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance premieres on Netflix on August 30, 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
