Death Stranding Gets A Mind-Blowing New Trailer With A Release Date

By Diego PerezMay 29, 2019
Death Stranding

Even after countless trailers, most people still couldn’t tell you what Hideo Kojima’s upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Death Stranding is about. After today’s massive nine-minute trailer, they could at least tell you the release date. Check it out below.

After a long wait, we finally know when we can get our hands on Death Stranding: November 8, 2019.

The trailer itself is full of strange stuff. Mads Mikkelsen talking to a baby, Norman Reedus doing a lot of walking, typical Death Stranding fare. We also got introduced to a bunch of new characters and got our first solid look at some gameplay. We saw Sam, the game’s protagonist, ride a futuristic motorcycle, engage in some melee combat, and even shoot some people. We even got a look at some cool gadgets like an extendable ladder and a climbing anchor. It’s nice to see some actual gameplay after years of wondering what the game would play like.

Hideo Kojima spoke a little bit about what players can expect in Death Stranding in a post on the PlayStation Blog. “People have created ‘Walls’ and become accustomed to living in isolation,” wrote Kojima. “’Death Stranding’ is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the ‘Strand’ or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or ‘Strands’ with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.”

Kojima has said in the past that the game would feature some form of multiplayer, just not in the way that you would traditionally expect. It seems these “Strands” will be the focal point of the game and that creating bonds will be an instrumental part of Death Stranding

The game is currently up for pre-order at most retailers, and there’s even a super expensive collector’s edition for those of you who really want to own one of those baby pods. For those of you who don’t want to go all out on the collector’s edition but still want some extra goodies, there’s a digital deluxe edition and a special edition available as well.

Well, now we know when we’ll be able to play Death Stranding. Now if only we could get some information about The Last of Us Part II or Ghost of Tsushima.

When he's not playing video games, Diego's talking about video games, and he does both a lot.
