PlayStation 4 Closes In On the 100 Million Mark

By Josh PiedraFebruary 1, 2019

Sony announced it’s third quarter fiscal year results and stated that they shipped 8.1 million consoles during that quarter which spanned from October 1 to December 31. These latest shipments have brought the PlayStation 4 to a grand total of 94.2 million worldwide!

When compared to the 2017 fiscal year, Sony shipped 0.9 million units less in 2018. Sony is inching closer and closer to the 100 million units mark and it predicts that it will hit that mark. Sony still remains firmly ahead of the Xbox One in terms of global sales and well ahead of the Nintendo Switch but the latter isn’t a fair comparison since the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One came out long before the Switch did. The Nintendo Switch did outsell the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One during the 2018 holiday season.

The PlayStation 4 originally launched in November 2013 in the U.S and Canada and in February 2014 in Japan.
