The Legend of Zelda Attempting to Be Remade in Doom

By Josh PiedraJanuary 30, 2019

Mods of the original Doom by id Software are abundant. Some of your favorite gaming franchises have received a Doom mod at some point but now it’s The Legend of Zelda’s turn. For the past three years, a modder by the name of Exkodius has been working hard on recreating the original 1986 Legend of Zelda within the Doom engine.

After playing through the original game on his NES, Exkodius sparked the idea for the project. He got this idea when he began modding with Doom and felt that it would be a natural fit from the onset of his idea. Recreating an entire game inside of a 3D engine is no easy endeavor. In fact, the feat proved to be so great that Exkodius paused his project, thinking that he would never finish it; however, he is refusing to let the project die.

This is when Exkodius turned to the internet for help. he uploaded his project files to ModDB in hopes that someone would step forward and help him complete the project.

You can check out the project for yourself here: https://www.moddb.com/mods/zelda-tc

A demo of the game running in the Doom engine can be seen here

Let’s hope someone decides to pick this up to help Exkodius get across the finish line! It would be a really cool experience to play the original Zelda in this style!
