Metroid Prime 4’s Development Restarted

By Josh PiedraJanuary 25, 2019
Metroid Prime 4

Nintendo announced that they have restarted the development on Metroid Prime 4! Shinya Takashi stated in a video that the development of the game did not meet the standards Nintendo sets for their titles. Since then, the project has been completely rebooted. Nintendo has decided to turn back to Retro Studios to develop the game.

Retro Studios was responsible for the development of the first three Metroid Prime games. It was first speculated that they would be working on the fourth entry in the series. However, that wasn’t the case as the title was another collaboration with Bandai Namco and Nintendo.

Takashi was quoted as saying the following:

“Although this is very regrettable we must let you know that the current development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to Metroid Prime series. Nintendo always strives for the highest quality in our games and in our development phase.”

A video of the announcement can be seen below:

Seeing how the development of Metroid Prime 4 has just restarted, there’s no telling when we’ll see the game arrive on the Switch. But at least we now know what Nintendo hasn’t been talking about the game and was it was absent from the last Nintendo Direct.
