‘Voltron Legendary Defender’ Season 8 Trailer Shows Us the Big Finale

By Sara Roncero-MenendezDecember 7, 2018
Voltron Legendary Defender Season 7 Review

For fans of Netflix’s Voltron Legenedary Defender, this is a day many hoped would never come. Alas, we now face the final curtain call as the show wraps up with a new Season 8 trailer.

As we see from the trailer, the final confrontation with the Galra Empire is upon us. Last season, the paladins have finally gotten a chance to reunite with their families and connect Earth with the rest of the galaxy. As each paladin confronts their past and moves forward into battle, we can expect there to be a lot of tears, tough fights, and (let’s be real here) character death. We see that the show will continue to have high-stakes action, giant robot fights, and the same heart that drew so many into the show.

There were some leaked screenshots rumored to be from the final season that hint to one major character death, but I will not share or repeat them here, given the screenshots dubious nature. Among those screenshot was also proof that perhaps DreamWorks took the criticisms lobbed at it about queerbaiting the audience seriously.

Showrunners and executive producers Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery told Entertainment Weekly:

“We are incredibly proud to to bring the story of Voltron Legendary defender to a close with the eighth and final season. It has been an absolute honor to work alongside such a talented and dedicated crew these past four years over 78 episodes. Witnessing the fandom grow and evolve alongside the show has been nothing short of amazing, and saying goodbye to these characters, the amazing worlds they inhabit, and the crazy vehicles they pilot will be truly bittersweet. We can only hope that this series will be looked back on fondly in the years to come and stoke the creative flame inside all of us, the same way the original did when we first watched it.”

Voltron Legenedary Defender Season 8 will premiered on Netflix on December 14, 2018.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
