Latest Community Created Mod Released For NieR: Automata Does Wonders For Input Issues And More

By Keith MitchellDecember 14, 2018
NieR: Automata

We’re more than a year away from the release of Nier: Automata‘s PC release and we still haven’t received much support from Square Enix or Platinum Games on the multitude of issues that plague the PC port. Outside of several minor patches, there are still issues such as input delay, camera issues, and resolution and unstable framerate.

Thankfully, the community has wonderful individuals that always seem to want to take this issues head on. First, we received the FAR mod from Kaldaien and now another mode has recently been released to address the input, aiming issues for keyboard and mouse users. Created by Methanhydrat, whose name should sound familiar as he’s also created similar mods for multiple games. Including Dark Souls 1, Dead Space 1/ 2, as well as for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

NieR: Automata Input Overhaul Mod, or NAIOM v1.0, which was recently released deals with not only issues with mouse acceleration which lead to the camera going crazy. Not mention making it hard to aim when using a mouse. But it also allows for greater control when binding keys for keyboard users.

Here’s everything that you can do with this mod.

The NieR: Automata Input Overhaul Mod (NAIOM) aims to solve all keyboard and mouse related issues in the game. As many other rough PC ports, NieR was primarily designed with a controller in mind and internally maps keyboard and mouse input to gamepad controls. This leads to various issue, including negative and positive mouse acceleration, as well as weird controls in certain perspectives, e.g. when aiming in side-scrolling mode.

Its features include:

  • Raw mouse input without any acceleration or smoothing
  • Precise sensitivity configuration (calibrated for KovaaK’s SensitivityMatcher)
  • Fixed camera movement in third-person perspective
  • New (optional) crosshair aiming mode for side-scrolling and top-down perspective
  • Completely rebindable standard actions to any key or button combination including additional mouse buttons
  • Non-standard keybindings, such as a dedicated dash/evade and pod fire toggle
  • Full compatibility with FAR mod

The mod can be downloaded at both the PC Gaming Wiki, and Nexus.

As mentioned above, the mod also works with the FAR mod, giving you the best of both worlds. Lastly and more importantly, this mode will ONLY work with a legit copy of the game. So if you try to use it with a pirate copy and it doesn’t work – don’t complain.

A huge thanks to Methanhydrat for addressing issues that many have dealt with since the game was released for the PC.  Should anyone have any issues with the mod, be sure to contact Methanhydrat at his website, or even to toss a few dollars his way. It’s the work done by people such as Methanhydrat, that helps make our PC gaming experience better when the original developers ultimately leave us high and dry.

As for the game its self, it’s an amazing title. Even with the issues, NieR: Automata was easily my favorite title of 2017. If you haven’t checked it out, please do so – as you’re missing out on one of the best action/RPG titles that have been released in quite some time.
