What Exactly Does Obsidian Have Planned For The Game Awards Show

By Keith MitchellNovember 28, 2018

Update: Well, looks like it is the Private Division published game after all. So we have that to look forward to and I dunno about you. But I’m exactly about it.

Obsidian Entertainment, maker of some pretty damned amazing RPGs and one of the newest members of Microsoft’s gaming studios. You know all about them, right? Well, what you don’t know is they apparently have an announcement planned for the upcoming The Games Awards show.

But what announcement am I referring to? That’s a good question. Right now, if you head on over to Obsidian.net, you’ll be greeted by a number of “advertisements”.

The first is the mention of The Game Awards, which takes place on Dec. 6, 2018.

Continuing past there is yet another one, which shows off an advertisement for some sort of weapon. Along with a logo for something called “Spacer’s Choice”.

However, it doesn’t stop there. If you refresh the site (you may have to do this a few times), you’ll get a new announcement and advertisement. The second (or first) announcement is Christmas themed, featuring Auntie Cleo’s.

Followed by an ad for an assortment of skin creme, bread, ointment, and one other item.

It really gives me Bioshock vibes, if I’m being honest.

But what does this all mean? Short of answering that we’ll have to wait until The Game Awards show to find out, let’s speculate for a moment. You see, prior to Microsoft acquiring the development studio, Obsidian was already working on a new game. We don’t know much about it since it’s been kept under lock and key.

However, we do know that it was supposed to be a new RPG, a really big one. This unknown title would be published by gaming label “Private Division“, which was formed by Take-Two Interactive. At the helm of this project is Leon Boyarsky and Tim Cain, better known from Fallout and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. Oh, and apparently whatever this game is going to be called, it won’t feature any microtransactions. That’s pretty much all we know about this mystery game. But why are we assuming that this title could be what Obsidian is teasing?

For starters, it’s way too early to be announcing anything from the Microsoft camp. We already knew that this game was being worked on and we recall this title was rumored to be released in 2019. Seeing how we’re at the end of 2018, it would be a great time to let the world know more about this game.

Of course, this is all speculation. We’ll have to wait until Dec. 6 to find out more about whatever this announcement is all about.
