Should you watch the Fate series? Thoughts on Fate/Apocrypha

By Cole EckerleJuly 7, 2018

So recently I’ve been watching a lot of anime! Keeping up with seasonal animes as well as dabbling in older ones. One of the animes I decided to watch was Fate/Apocrypha. I’ve never before watched any of the Fate series until now and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed. So in this article, I wanted to give my thoughts on Fate/Apocrypha and whether I recommend getting into the Fate series or not.

If you are new to the Fate series like I am, I recommend giving this video a watch if you decide to get into Type-Moon’s famed franchise:

So yes, if you couldn’t tell, I am a total scrub and noob to the Fate franchise. After doing research, I learned Fate/Apocrypha is apart of an alternate timeline of the Fate/Stay Night series. From my knowledge, since it’s apart of a different timeline, Fate/Apocrypha is able to be watched without any previous knowledge of the rest of the series. Can I confirm that this is true after watching Apocrypha? Yes, yes I can! Fate/Apocrypha is completely watchable without any previous knowledge of the Fate franchise. Within the first few episodes, you are told the basics of what is going on. Once the introductions are complete, you get straight into the action.

The fight scenes are most likely the most incredible and over the top fights I’ve ever seen in anime. I’m surprised the Earth is even capable of handling such destruction from each battle. Along with the sound effects emphasizing the impact each attack has, it makes for some of the most incredible fights in anime. Even the story itself was intriguing with excellent character development, the development even made me invest myself in the anime more than I already had been.

Without nerding out too much or going into full review mode, I just wanna say that Fate/Apocrypha is a MUST watch. You don’t need any previous knowledge from the series to enjoy yourself. It was incredibly entertaining and I’ll definitely be getting into the rest of the Fate series. Type-Moon has an incredible franchise, and I’m excited to get more into it. Once I no life binge-watch the entire Fate series I’ll be sure to at least give my overall thoughts on my experience of watching it all.
