E3 2018: New Marvel Spider-Man Footage Shows Some Main Villains

Tonight at the Sony Playstation E3 2018 Press Conference, Sony showed a second trailer for the upcoming Marvel Spider-Man game by Insomniac Games.

The trailer, which you can watch for yourself below, shows Spider-Man arriving at The Raft; a supermax prison that holds a lot of Marvel’s more powerful villains, during a breakout. In the game-play portion of the trailer, we see Spider-Man chasing down Electro in The Raft as he battles against a bunch of standard grunt fodder before running into Rhino (Oh hey Rhino!) and continuing further into The Raft where we are introduced to Scorpion & The Vulture. After a second section showing the web swinging mechanic in action as Spider-Man goes around The Raft again chasing down Electro, leading to a finale on the roof where all 4 villains shown in this trailer (Electro, Rhino, Scorpion & The Vulture) join with Mr Negative (who was seen in the first Marvel Spider-Man trailer at E3 last year) to beat down Spider-Man; all ending with a 6th unknown villain appearing as the trailer ends.

From what we have seen in the trailer, there is a lot more on offer here than there was 12 months ago. We get to see the web swinging mechanic in full action, though it seems to be tied to the Circle button rather than R2 or something more user friendly. The fighting mechanics look to be ripped directly from Batman: Arkham Knight, complete with the “Fear” mechanic appearing as Spider-Man’s “Spider Sense” moments. But if there is anything this trailer does right is build the want and desire to buy the game. The mystery 6th character ($20 says Doc Ock) is just enough to pull you into the story, plus the fighting is solid and web swinging only needs a slight button remapping to be perfect.

Marvel Spider-Man is available worldwide on September 7, 2018 exclusively on Playstation 4 & Playstation 4 Pro from all gaming retailers.
