Team Sonic Racing Is Sega’s Next Sonic Game

Everybody go supersonic racing

Ever since Sega teased an upcoming racing game featuring everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog, fans were anxious to find out what the game was going to be about. While I’m sure Sega was intent on making everyone wait until E3 2018. Today, Walmart’s recent string of name dropping announcements prior to E3 2018, whispered yet another victim. Sega’s upcoming Team Sonic Racing – much to the excitement of Sonic’s fans.

So what did Sega do? They officially announced the game and gave us a bunch of info about it. Guess we’ll need to thank Walmart for the early present.

Team Sonic Racing will be available later this year for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Sumo Digital has been confirmed to be studio working on the title, which is fantastic news.

Er. Surprise? 😬 Yes, the rumours are true. We're beyond excited to finally announce that we've been working on the [Top Secret] Team Sonic Racing with our friends at @SEGA!

A lot more to share very soon. Stay tuned! #TeamSonicRacing https://t.co/ZSieX2Ut0V

However, while this is a racing game it will differ from Sega’s past Sonic Racing titles. This time around you’ll be team racing, comprised of teams of three with up to 12 racers in total. Sega informs us that there will be 15 selectable characters from the Sonic Universe upon the game’s release.

Both offensive and defensive items will also make an appearance in the game.

It will also feature 4 player split-screen, offline and online racing modes, as well as a Grand Prix Mode, Exhibition Mode, Time-Trial and Team Adventure Mode. Racers will have access to moves to hinder and knock out your competition. As well as the ability to build up a meter and dish out what’s called a Team UItimate attack.  I wonder what that’s all about, but it sounds pretty interesting.

That’s not all as you’ll finally be able to customize your ride to give it some extra power and change its looks. Something that fans had been asking for since Sonic Racing: Transformed.  So I guess we’ll able to also call it Sonic Racing Underground? Too soon?

I have to say, I’m excited about this and have been ever since it was teased back in March 2018. Sonic Racing: Transformed was my favorite kart racing game, even more so than Mario Kart (don’t kill me!). Hopefully, this game is right up there in terms of fun and playability.

Expect to see and hear more about Team Sonic Racing at E3 2018, which takes place from June 12-14, 2018, held in the Los Angles Convention Center.
