There’s a New Death Stranding Trailer and Yes, This One is Also Weird

By Andrew AgressDecember 8, 2017
Death Stranding PS4

When Hideo Kojima announced that he was presenting at the Game Awards this year, it was expected that there’d be more news on Death Stranding. After all, he’s now founded his own company since his much publicized departure from Konami, so he’d hardly be talking about Metal Gear. While the game appears to be a ways off, he debuted a new trailer. Much like the first two trailers, the newest one is pretty tight lipped about the upcoming game. It’s also the longest yet. Still no hints at to what the gameplay will be like. And still very confusing.

Got all that? Make perfect sense? Okay, so it may be as delightfully convoluted as ever (this is Hideo Kojima we’re talking about) yet it does have a few clues in it. For one, it ties nicely into the two trailers that preceded it. The first had a naked Norman Reedus washing up on a beach with a baby. The second, a distressed Guillermo del Toro trying to protect a baby from skeletons, a weird fleshy tank, and Mads Mikkelsen. You know, typical stuff.

In the latest Death Stranding trailer, Reedus is attacked by an unseen creature. Notably, his comrades are killed by each other before they can be captured by the monster’s… strands. And they’re dead. So you see where we’re going with this. Title explained. Maybe. There are also a few other clues such as a reference to del Toro’s pin from the second trailer and of course, yet another baby. There’s also a space station, black goop, and references to the big bang. Because with every answer he gives us, Kojima provides at least a few more questions.
