Nintendo Bringing Wii Games To China Via NVIDIA Shield

By Todd BlackDecember 5, 2017
Nintendo NVIDIA Shield

Here’s a fun fact for you, the Nintendo Wii was one of the most sold consoles of all time, BUT, it never sold in China. So, many of the classic games never made its way there…until today that is. For the Big N teamed up with NVIDIA to bring three of their classic Wii games to the NVIDIA Shield, which debuted in China today.

Of the “launch” games, Super Mario Bros. Wii, Punch-Out, and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess were all there. But, Super Mario Galaxy is coming as well. Add to that, both Nintendo and NVIDIA have agreed to try and bring even more games to the Chinese market.

In a statement, NVIDIA said:

“Extending the business relationship that brought NVIDIA technology to Nintendo Switch, some of Nintendo’s most beloved Wii and Nintendo GameCube titles are officially headed to China for the first time. New Super Mario Bros. Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and PUNCH-OUT!! are remastered in 1080p and available on the China version of NVIDIA SHIELD, released today.”

It should be noted that these versions are played with controllers, not the Wiimote and Nunchuk. But, we think that’s a small price to pay for these games getting released to this market for the first time.
