The Lego Movie’s Unikitty is Getting a Show on Cartoon Network

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMay 11, 2017

Who was the best character from The Lego Movie? Batman is a popular choice, or the smooth-voiced Vitruvius perhaps. Benny and Metalbeard also have their charm. But the one getting the show is definitely a character all her own: Princess Unikitty.

Cartoon Network has announced it has greenlit Unikitty! a show about this positive unicorn-cat with a temper and her adventures in Cloud Cuckoo Land. Alison Brie will not be returning to reprise her role, but veteran voice actress Tara Strong will take the reigns. Also in the cast are Grey Griffin, Kate Micucci, Roger Craig Smith, Eric Bauza, and H. Michael Croner.

As for what the show’s about, here’s the summer provided by Cartoon Network:

“As ruler of the kingdom, Unikitty — whose efforts to stay positive and avoid negativity no matter what sometimes makes her prone to the “occasional rage-out” — keeps busy with royal responsibilities. Unikitty is most interested in making sure everyone is happy and ridding the kingdom of negativity, but she is a force to be reckoned with if anyone gets in the way of spreading her positive vibes, especially if anyone makes her little brother and best friend, Puppycorn, sad.

“Also living in the castle are Dr. Fox, the resident scientist, and Unikitty’s trusty bodyguard, Hawkodile. Through it all, Unikitty and her friends make sure that every day is the happiest and most creative ever.”

It seems pretty in keeping with the Unikitty we saw in the film, so at least fans of the character can look forward to more scary temper flare-ups, cute clouds, and all the bright bombast that we only got a peek at in the feature film. Who knows, maybe there will be a cameo or two from our other favorite characters. There’s no set date for the release of the show, but it is likely it will premiere sometime in 2018.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
