Splatoon 2 Gets New Mode, New Amiibo, and Release Date!

Splatoon 2

The highly anticipated Nintendo Direct today did not fail to disappoint, and not surprisingly, the Direct ended with a new look at Splatoon 2! And boy, did we get a lot of new information!

First up, there will be three new Amiibo released alongside Splatoon 2. One for an Inkling Girl, one for the Inkling Boy, and for a Squid. These, of course, look different than the original Splatoon Amiibo, and they have different functions too. They’ll actually be able to hang out with you in Inkopolis, and you’ll get to take pictures with them via your Nintendo Switch. Also, they’ll be able to remember your favorite gear ensembles, and you can switch gear with your Amiibo Inkling or Squid on the go. Meaning you can put your best gear on your Amiibo, take it to a friends house, insert the Amiibo into the game, and they’ll have your preferred gear on them!

Arguably just as epic, a brand new mode was revealed for Splatoon 2! It’s called “Salmon Run”, and it’s basically the Splatoon version of Horde Mode, but with some fun twists. First off, you are facing off against Salmon-like enemies called “Chum”, which will attack in waves. When you kill them, you get special eggs as rewards.

But, in a fun twist, there are much tougher enemies that come out that require true teamwork to beat. And when you do beat them, you’ll get better eggs. The collection of eggs isn’t random for the record, as you’ll get them so you can get rewards that’re being kept secret for now. Another twist is that your Inklings will have special gear, ones that you can use to actually revive your teammates.

Oh, and the Octarians are indeed coming back in Splatoon 2, with more details on them coming soon, maybe at E3.

Last, but certainly not least, Splatoon 2 and the Amiibo for it are coming out on July 21st! Making this one of the must-have summer games.
