HyperX Cloud Stinger Headset Review

By Todd BlackApril 13, 2017
HyperX Cloud Stinger Headset

Perhaps the best low-costing gaming headset around

For me, headsets are a key part of the gaming experience. Especially nowadays when you use headphones with a microphone to talk to your fellow gamer. But also, headsets are just part of the PC experience too. Whether it’s listening to music, talking with friends over a program, or whatever else you do, it’s nice to have a comfortable headset. I’m happy to say that the HyperX Cloud Stinger Headset is the best one I’ve ever had.

Name: HyperX Cloud Stinger
Manufacturer: Kingston Technologies
Price: USD $49.99 On Amazon
Release Date: August 12th, 2016

And that’s saying something because I’ve had a variety of headsets before. From simple ones to listen to things on, to ones with microphones so that I could chat with friends, I’ve run the gambit, but this set is the nicest.

First off, it’s comfortable, that can’t be stated enough, because I’ve had headphones that I’ve endured wearing because I needed to, but they would put a serious hurting on my head and ears, I’ve never had that with the HyperX Cloud Stinger Headset. They’re adjustable to fit your head size, and the pads around the ears are so soft that at times you’ll forget you have them on. They’re also adjustable in the fact that you can twist the earpieces to make them lie more flat on the ground. That’s pretty cool.

As for sound quality, it’s great. Both the speakers and the microphone give perfect sound quality. Also, you can easily turn up and down the sound you receive from them via a volume slider under the right ear. The headset is guaranteed to work across a variety of vocal platforms like TeamSpeak, Discord, Mumble, Skype, and more. I use all these programs, so it was very nice to know that I would have no trouble with the microphone, and I haven’t so far.

Though I don’t use it personally, it’s really cool that the HyperX Cloud Stinger Headset comes with different settings for how to use it. Meaning you can hook it up to your PC, or laptop, or even your Xbox One and PS4. It has outlets for all of these, and it’s easy to adjust and load up for the one you’re wanting at the time. Again, I only use it for PC, but I can appreciate the appeal.

As for the microphone, I absolutely love how you can actually bend it to get the quality you need. Computers are funny (in a bad way) about how they pick up sounds. So if you need to bring the microphone close to make sure you get picked up, or you need to bend it away so there’s no static feedback, this headset has got you covered.

The only bad thing I have to say about the headset is the cord size. I have my computer tower really close to my monitor and computer chair, and the cord is very, very long. No doubt to accommodate those who have great distances between their console and where they play it. but for a PC user like me? I have to keep part of the cord wrapped up, and even then, I sometimes get it tangled up in something or pull it with my feet on accident. If you’re mindful, it’s not a problem, but it can get annoying when you forget it’s there and something happens.

All in all though, if you’re looking for a good gaming headset, microphone headset, or just a good headset in general, the HyperX Cloud Stinger Headset is a great choice.
