Nintendo Switch Has Sold 1.5 Million Units In First Week

By Todd BlackMarch 14, 2017
Nintendo Switch Launch

Ever since the launch of the Nintendo Switch, we have waited for the numbers that would tell us just how well it did. We’ve known that they sold out, and in many cases are still sold out, but what’s the hard number? Well, Gameindustry.biz seems to have the answer.

That number comes to about 1.5 million, which is a very impressive number considering that the Wii U took a LOT longer to get there. Also remember, this is first week sales, it’s entirely possible that by the end of week two that it’ll be closer to 2 million, if not higher.

Just in the US alone, the Nintendo Switch sold 500,000 copies, and again, many stores are sold out, so that number could’ve been easily much higher.

Oh, and as if there was any doubt, one of the big things that helped the Nintendo Switch launch? Was Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Apparently, 89% of people who bought the Switch, bought Breath of the Wild. 89%! Be sure to check out our review on it!

So what does this mean? Well, it means the Nintendo Switch is now a confirmed hit, and if (keyword “if”) Nintendo can keep the shelves stocked and the games rolling out, they’ll get some good sales during its lifetime.

There are some big titles coming out in April such as Arms and  Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but after that it’s a bit of a mystery when it comes to confirmed titles and dates. We know Splatoon 2 is coming in the Summer, but there’s no date attached yet.

Regardless, we here are the Outerhaven are happy to be some of the 1.5 million who got the Nintendo Switch in the first week. Are you part of them? Let us know!
