It has been confirmed by FUNimation that Makoto Shinkai’s Kimi no Na Wa (Your Name) will be coming to U.S. theaters on April 7. This, unfortunately, means that the October 26, 2017, Blu-Ray release date was not a placeholder and is now accurate.
However, the good news that comes with this is that the band who performed most of the theme songs in the film, RADWIMPS, have re-recorded their songs in English and will present them during the film’s theatrical releases. FUNimation also stated that the movie will be played with the option of Japanese audio with English subtitles or with an English audio track instead. This will be the first time that the English versions of the soundtrack will be heard anywhere in the world.
Your Name is up for Oscar consideration and recently earned $331.6 Million worldwide, making it the most successful Japanese animated movie of all-time, defeating Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. It is also the fourth overall successful movie in Japan’s history.
The novelization of the movie has close to 2 million copies sold and has been licensed by Yen Press for North American distribution, but no word has been given from Yen Press about when the novel will release.
