D.Gray-man Chapter 224 Thoughts

By Josh PiedraJanuary 25, 2017
D.Gray-man

D.Gray-manTitle: D.Gray-man Ch. 224
Author: Katsura Hoshino
Publisher: Shueisha
Language: Japanese
Format: Digital
Pages: 8
Genre: Shounen, Battle
Publication Date: January 19, 2017

Here we are, six months later and after, yet, another hiatus; D.Gray-man has once again returned. Surely with six months, we would get a really in-depth continuation of the events from last time, right?

Nope

We are treated to EIGHT pages…. Yes…. EIGHT pages of material.

All that happens in this “chapter” (and I use that word loosely) is Tyki retrieves the Millennium Earl and starts to transport him away, saying that he won’t let the 14th harm him. Allen Walker, as Nea, vows that he will meet the Earl again and kill him. Then there is an epic stare down between Tyki and Nea Allen and… well… that’s it.

I was barely even able to form a proper paragraph to recap the amount of content that we were given. Essentially, we waited six months for nothing. Nothing advanced in this story. Nothing was resolved. No new information was given to us that could have advanced this plot any further. Hell, the Earl didn’t even get fully transported by the end of this installment. This was literally a chapter of nothing and now we have to wait another three months to see any kind of progression, barring if Hoshino goes on another hiatus or she decides to draw more than eight pages.

As a D.Gray-man fan for over a decade, this was a huge slap in the face. Why even publish this if it’s not even finished? Who was the editor that gave this the green light? I would have rather the series stayed in hiatus until a proper chapter could have been developed. There are WEEKLY manga that put out more content than this.

I know George Morikawa has put out very short chapters of Hajime no Ippo before, but he puts stuff out on a weekly basis. Hoshino had SIX MONTHS. That’s HALF OF AN ENTIRE YEAR to produce a respectable chapter and we’re given eight pages that did absolutely NOTHING.

I love D.Gray-man and everything, but this… this is just pathetic. See you guys in April. Maybe we’ll get actual content to talk about then.
