“Adventure Time” Set To End in 2018

By Sara Roncero-MenendezSeptember 29, 2016

For those who love the Emmy-winning show Adventure Time, the end is drawing near. Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline the Vampire Queen, Ice King, Lady Rainicorn and the rest of the inhabitants of the Land of Ooo will make their final on-screen appearance in 2018. The ninth and last season of the show is currently in production.

Show creator Pendleton Ward told The Hollywood Reporter that he is touched by the response of fans to the show: “Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”

Fans across the web are lamenting the end of the show, and in many ways an end of an era. After all, Adventure Time marked the beginning of Cartoon Network experimenting with more complex and mature shows. Twitter is full of mournful tweets concerning the news, with many wishing the show would last a little longer. Still, the show’s eighth season has yet to air, giving fans two more seasons to enjoy the characters they love.

Adventure Time isn’t the only show leaving the line-up in 2018 — Regular Show will also be going off the air after their final season. The Emmy-winning show premiered their eighth and final season on September 26th, 2016, with the very last episode set to air sometime in January 2017.

One has to wonder what shows Cartoon Network will debut to fill the slots of these two long-running series, and if they’ll be able to capture the same magic as their predecessors. Hey, at least Steven Universe has another few seasons left…that we know of.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
