Twitch Is Laying the Smack down on Early No Man’s Sky Streams

By Keith MitchellAugust 6, 2016
No Man's Sky

Some stores have been selling early copies of Hello Game’s No Man’s Sky and honestly, it could ruin the game for those who’ve waited this long. Early today, at least two major gaming websites have already streamed the game and there are at least 20 or more streams I’ve seen today, not counting YouTube. It’s pretty depressing, however, at least Twitter is stepping in.

As of 50 minutes go, Twitch has announced that if anyone is caught streaming prior to August 8, 2016, at 9PM PDT, they will be subject to a DMCA strike. For those unfamiliar with what that is, the first two strikes is a 24-hour ban. The third time earns you a permanent suspension, which you’d have to take up with Twitch to remove it or not.

No Man's Sky will be available for broadcast next Mon 8/8 @ 9pm PT per @hellogames. Broadcasts before then may be subject to DMCA strike.

Is it fair? Well, that depends. Sure, you or whomever has a copy may have paid for it. Yet at the same time, playing the game before the actual released without permission from the creators or playing it without a much the day one patch may send the wrong signal.

Either way, it’s going to be a long weekend for anyone who has the No Man’s Sky Fever.
