Splatoon Gets Another Free Test Fire Event

By August 17, 2016
Splatoon

Nintendo is giving holdout Wii U owners yet another chance to be swayed by the splatastic paint-spewing action of Splatoon. For those who never tried one of the previous two demos that took place around launch, or still weren’t sold on the ink-swimming, running and gunning that turned the colorful new IP into one of the surprise hits of 2015, a limited Test Fire event is taking place August 25-28. Downloading the demo will grant players access to Splatoon‘s flagship Turf War mode each day between the hours of 3pm-5pm Pacific Time.

In Turf War, players team up in 4-on-4 battles to cover the arena with as much of their team’s ink as they can before time runs out and a fat, lazy cat judges the winner. This take on the mulitplayer online shooter is one where kills does not necessarily lead to victory, and provides a balance that allows even unskilled players to contribute to their team by simply holding down the trigger and running amok. Weapons for newcomers will be restricted to the machine-gun like Splattershot Jr. and Splattershot, the sniping Splat Charger, and the floor-covering Splat Roller, while the two available maps will be Saltspray Rig and Walleye Warehouse.

Frankly, it’s hard to imagine a Wii U without Splatoon at this point, but another Test Fire event like this certainly can’t hurt, and may introduce one of the most refreshingly unique online shooters on any console to players who previously passed it by.
