Pokemon Uranium Shutdown by Nintendo, Downloads Removed from Website

By Keith MitchellAugust 14, 2016

Another victim falls to Nintendo’s cease & desist orders

In less than two weeks, Nintendo has shut down two fan remakes of their popular IPs. Last week it was the remake of Metroid II and more recently, the fan-remade Pokemon Uranium. Yep, another cease and desist order has been passed down from Ninny. No word on if this the order was directly from Nintendo or the Pokemon Company.

Since it’s release, the game has been downloaded over 1 million times, proving yet again that there is a huge following in the Nintendo community and that if Nintendo tends to drag their feet, the fans will step in.

Sadly, from what I was being told, Pokemon Uranium was perhaps even better than the official Nintendo offerings when it comes to the Pokemon games. The team behind the title have announced that all downloads have been removed from their website.

If you do decide to download it from other locations, please be sure to check the checksum to make sure t matches up with the original game, otherwise, you may be downloading something else.

Honestly, in the grand scheme of things, Nintendo should have stopped this before the final release of the game. That said, now that it is released to the public, this C&D is merely a damage control tactic, but the game is already out there. Now, if there are updates that need to be made, then that’s a completely different story but I’m sure that’s already being planned.

This is just another example of the fans one-upping the official studios and if anything, it sends a message to Nintendo. Hell, why doesn’t Nintendo just hire the team and let them work on this officially? This is a gold mine right there.
