Little Nightmares Trailer Shows Puzzle Platformer Gameplay

By Cody MaynardAugust 17, 2016

Bandai Namco and Tarsier Studios’ Little Nightmares got a trailer today showing off some gameplay. It shows some mild puzzle solving, some atmospheric platforming, and a really ugly chef. The game, which is set to release Spring 2017, looks a little Limbo inspired, which isn’t a bad thing. Little Nightmares is being developed for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Steam for PC.

Here’s a bit of story explanation via a Bandai Namco press release:

LITTLE NIGHTMARES presents a grim shadow-filled adventure through an interactive storyline, outstanding sound design, and a unique art-style that is sure to deliver eerie chills and goosebumps. Players will discover that LITTLE NIGHTMARES blurs the lines between dreams and nightmares as they explore The Maw in an effort to escape its nightmarish confines. Gruesome enemies and environments can be found at every turn on this strange vessel; the fate of Six lies in the skillful hands of hands of players.

The game looks like it has something going for it in the way of atmosphere, but if the trailer is any indication, it’s not nearly as creepy as it’s being made out to be. That chef looks more like someone held a lighter to one of Tim Burton’s clay creations than something original and frightening. Hopefully “The Maw” holds more in store for players looking for scares.
