Fire Emblem Crossover with Pokemon Almost Happened

Nintendo has never been afraid to crossover their big franchises. In fact it’s because of this that Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., and more exist and are massively popular today.

A more recent unique crossover was Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, a blend of Fire Emblem with Atlus franchise Shin Megami Tensei. Though very much a niche game, it was another classic case of Nintendo going beyond what they usually do.

Now, an interview found in a December 2015 issue of Nintendo Dream, an oft unread Nintendo publication, has been found and translated to reveal that another crossover was talked about featuring Fire Emblem. This time though, with Pokemon. You can read the full interview here.

“Yamagami (Nintendo producer): Five years ago, Ms. Andou proposed a plan [for a crossover], saying “You know, I think the rules for Fire Emblem and Pokémon are pretty compatible!” Though I agreed with her, it was by chance that The Pokémon Company had already proposed what eventually became Pokemon Conquest at the same time [so we were unable to follow through].”

It was also revealed in the interview that changes with Atlus at the time prohibited such a crossover. Then, when it was possible to work with Atlus again, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was thought of.
