Playstation 4.5 Is Reportedly Real

By Mark SullivanMarch 24, 2016

An upgraded Playstation 4 console is seemingly on the way.

In a report from Kotaku last week, it was suggested that multiple developers had confirmed a new Playstation 4 model, often referred to as the “Playstation 4.5” or “Playstation 4K,” with an upgraded GPU to support 4K resolution and more processing power to benefit Playstation VR. Today, Digital Foundry (via Eurogamer) has further confirmed this rumor, detailing three possible outcomes as to what this could be, and why:

  1. A system with increased processing power (as suggested before)
  2. A system with 4K resolution-supported features (as also suggested before)
  3. A slim PS4 model with some performance upgrades

For more details on each possible option, be sure to check out Digital Foundry’s article. We also chatted about the possibility of a Playstation 4.5 on the latest episode of SonyCentric, so give that a listen to hear our thoughts.

Would you upgrade to a Playstation 4.5? Do you think it’s a good idea, or a terrible one? Let us know in the comments below.

Mark is a student in Philadelphia currently working towards a B.S. in Information Science & Technology. Starting in 1998 with a hand-me-down PS1 and the demo for Spyro The Dragon (which he played COUNTLESS times), his love of gaming soon elevated when he borrowed Final Fantasy VII from a friend for the first time. Now he's an avid collector, a semi-expert trophy hunter, and an overall lover of video games. Favorite games are Final Fantasy VII (I know, deal with it), Metal Gear Solid 2, Resident Evil 4, Dark Souls, and Psychonauts, to name a few.
