It’s something Guardians have wanted in Destiny since the game was launched, and on December 8th, it will become a reality. Bungie will be launching the Sparrow Racing League, exclusively for The Taken King, in three days time (presumably, it will begin with the weekly reset). From the trailer, it looks like the maps will be confined to Mars and Venus, and the new mode will yield both new sparrows and gear as rewards.
It was also announced at the PSX keynote that Playstation players will be getting an exclusive quest specific to the League, as well as a new set of armor for the upcoming return of the Iron Banner PvP tournament.
Three months out from the last expansion, Destiny players have begun to grow restless in the forums regarding new content. While this announcement certainly addresses an item that has been on fan wish lists for quite some time, no additional news regarding mainline content might be distressing to some players. At this point last year, we were about to play The Dark Below and we knew another DLC release was on its way.
Time will tell how the community will react. Regardless, it is nice that Bungie is looking to add some variety to the Destiny universe.
