Sentai Filmworks Licenses Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Higurashi

Sentai Filmworks

Sentai Filmworks announced at their Anime Expo panel that they have licensed Legend of the Galactic Heroes as well as both seasons of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and the OVAs.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is an adaptation of a series of novels of the same name by Yoshiki Tanaka. Originally airing during the 80s and 90s, Legend of the Galactic Heroes is the longest original video animation (OVA) series to date.

Set during a series of conflicts between the Free Planets Alliance and the Galactic Empire, Legend of the Galactic Heroes revolves around two great generals: the Empire’s Reinhard von Lohengramm and the Alliance’s Yang Wen-Li.

Based off of a visual novels series by the same name, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni was previously licensed by Funimation. After Funimation’s license expired in 2011, the show remained in a state of limbo before being acquired by Sentai Filmworks.

At the present there is no word of what format either show will be released in.
