[Update]: Want A Spiritual Successor To Banjo-Kazooie?

By Aaron SandersMay 1, 2015

[Update]: see this article about the sudden success of the project!

—

[Original Story]: Did you love Banjo-Kazooie back in the day? Do you want a return of the dynamic duo? Well, next best thing might have just appeared. Playtonic Games is a new studio created by former Rare Studios developers, and their first game is a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, “Yooka-Laylee”.

yooka-laylee

Yooka-Laylee was created by Steve Mayles, the man that created Banjo-Kazooie and the Donkey Kong family from the Donkey Kong Country series. Yooka-Laylee will use the two main characters in a symbiotic way similar to Banjo-Kazooie. Yooka, the lizard, will be able to walk, roll, jump around, and utilize its tongue as a grappling hook. While Laylee, the bat, can pick up Yooka, fly them around, and release sonic blasts.

Sound like fun? Well, you have a say on how and when you can get your hands on the new symbiotic gaming duo. Playtonic Games are taking their game to Kickstarter and depending on how well the Kickstarter does determines when each version of the game is released. Playtonic are hoping on releasing versions for Windows, Mac, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Wii U. Playtonic are also planning on offering special extras including a soundtrack to the game, art books, and a “64-bit” special edition.

Starting May 1st, you can become a backer of Yooka-Laylee on Kickstarter and you will have the chance receive a future-finished copy of the game for $15.
