Project Cars will be 60FPS for consoles, can reach up to 12K for PC

By Keith MitchellApril 15, 2015

Slightly Mad Studios have finally confirmed the resolutions for the upcoming racing simulator, Project Cars. While both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will feature a silky smooth 60 frames per second, only the PS4 version will ran at 1080p where the Xbox One will run at 900p. And before anyone gets all bent out of shape about it, yes there is a slight difference in resolutions, however frame rate is king and I’m willing to bet that no one is going to miss those missing pixels.

However things start to get interesting on the PC front as the reported resolution supported can be ramped all the way up to a 12K resolution! That’s 11520 x 2160 folks.

As many of you are aware, 4K can and is already being ran on all but the most powerful gaming PC’s out there and even then it’s still quite the challenge to get a game running at 60 frames per second more. Now imagine trying to run it at 12K? Yes we don’t have access to 12K monitors but we’ll be able to down-sample that 12K to our current 4K monitors. I can only imagine the type of slideshows we’ll be able to race to.

Update – And there’s a PC that was build 2 years ago that can actually push this kind of power, check the link to see more of it.

Looks like instead of looking for gaming wheel for my PC, I should be looking to get three 4K monitors instead.

Full PC specs to play Project Cars are listed below:

Minimum requirements :

  • CPU: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400, 3.0 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
  • GRAPHICS: nVidia GTX 260, ATI Radeon HD 5770
  • MEMORY: 4Gb RAM, 1Gb VRAM

  • GRAPHICS: nVidia GT600 series, AMD Radeon HD7000 series
  • MEMORY: 8Gb RAM, 2Gb VRAM

Project Cars will be available for PC, PS4, Xbox One May 2015, with the Wii U version being released at a later date.
