GRIN Gamestudio’s “Woolfe” is making it’s way through the Kickstarter forest

By Keith MitchellAugust 8, 2014

What happens when you take a classic and timeless fairy tale and re-imagine it into a game, a platformer no less. Well that’s what GRIN Gamestudio, the team behind the current kickstarter called “Woolfe – The Red Hood Diaries” is planning on showing the world.

Woolfe is the story of Little Red Ridding Hood and sets her lose into a brand new fantasy world to solve the mystery of her father’s untimely death, one that includes locations such as evil and mystical forests, factories and much more. According to GRIN Gamestudios, Woolfe will take place as a 2.5D platformer that combines the traditional hack & slash game play with a fresh and fun combo-based system that will introduce some pretty wicked and fast paced combat while also throwing in environment-based puzzles that will reward gamers for taking the time to solve them.

Four years ago, Red Riding Hood’s father Joseph, lead engineer for Woolfe Industries, died in a work accident. At least, that’s what his family was told. All grown-up and cried out, our heroine is ready to unveil the truth and present the bill for her tragic loss.

And if you’re wondering if you’ve ever seen this game before, well you’re correct. The game originally was Greenlit on Steam and even made a debut at E3 2013 as a trailer on the Xbox One. So why is this now on Kickstarter? Sadly the original concept of the game had to have a lot of content removed such as the use of magic that Red would have been able to use, such as invisibility, teleportation and several others. GRIN Gamestudio wasn’t happy with those decisions and has taken to Kickstarter to get it put back into the game with our help!

Woolfe, if I was you I'd leave this Lil Red alone. She's got a freaking AXE!

So we all better do our part, ok?

While the game isn’t close to be finished, everything that I’ve seen so far from the Kickstarter definitely has that erie,  twisted and creepy vibe from it, yet intriguing enough to make me want to take that trip down the rabbit hole (see what I did there). Slated to be released onto the PC assuming the funding is successful but judging from the fact that it’s nearly half-way funded ($23,460 of the $50,000 goal) with 27 days more to go I”m going to go on a limb and say that we’ll definitely see Woolfe installed on our PC’s in 2015.

But of course this is a Kickstarter project and as such that also means that there will be all sorts of rewards and incentives to fund the game. And incentives there are, from access to the full game to the game’s soundtrack, art books, stickers and much much more. Hell you can even customize you very own Toy-Soldier which will then be made into the game,

I’m a sucker for a good platform game and this is shaping up to be something fantastic and I’ve happily contributed my $30 for the course and I recommend everyone else to take a look at this game and make sure it sees the light day and installed into Steam on our PC’s!
