Bungie’s gone special edition crazy with their Destiny editions

By Keith MitchellJuly 8, 2014

And you get a special edition, and you get a special edition, and you get… oh, hello there.

Don’t mind me, I’m just looking at the current Destiny limited editions that Bungie has announced so far. What? You didn’t know about them?

We have three different bundles for Destiny coming out; the Limited Edition collection, the Ghost Edition and the Digital Guardian Edition (digital only, obviously).

Let’s take a look and see what makes them so different and what edition is best for you.

Ghost Edition – $149.99 (Amazon)

  • Limited edition production run and availability!
  • Limited Edition SteelBook Case and Game Disc
  • Ghost Replica: This is your motion-sensing Ghost, featuring lights and audio from the game. May it lead you through the Darkness
  • Letter of Introduction: These worlds were once ours. If you accept your destiny, you will be asked to do the impossible
  • Golden Age Relics, which include a Patch, Sticker, and two Chrome slides of the Traveler.
  • Guardian Folio, that includes the following; “Arms and Armament” Field Guide, Postcards from the Golden Age and the Antique Star Chart.
  • Collector’s Edition Digital Content: Includes the following content; Unique Ghost Casing, An Exclusive Player Emblem, An Exclusive Player Ship Skin and the Destiny Expansion Pass (normally retails for $34.99 and includes the first two expansions, The Dark Below and House of Wolves ).

Destiny Limited Edition – $99.99 (Amazon.com)

This package will include everything from the Ghost Edition with the omission of the Ghost Replica.

Destiny Digital Guardian Edition – $89.99 (Amazon)

This for those who prefer the digital versions of their games. Truth be said this is perhaps the barest of the three offered editions and is only $10 less than the Limited Edition.

  • Digital copy of Destiny
  • Access the Vanguard Armory and Emblem pre-order bonus
  • Unique Ghost Casing, an Exclusive Player Emblem and Exclusive Player Ship Skin
  • Access to the upcoming The Dark Below and House of Wolves expansions

So now that you’ve seen them which is best for you?

If you’re a collector and love toys then there’s no doubt that the Ghost Edition is the one for you. At $149.99 you get everything that Bungie can toss at you plus that model of the Ghost is pretty sweet. I hope it lights up as well.  Though I wonder how rare this is going to turn out to be, especially since you can find “super rare” collector editions of other games in budget bins anymore.

Now if you’re not a fan of toys then then Limited Edition is your next best bet. Coming in at $99.99 you get everything that the Ghost edition includes with the exception of the Ghost model.

And lastly you have the Digital Guardian Edition. I have to admit this is pretty bare-boned and the only plus it has over the other two editions is that it’s digital and won’t take up any room on your gaming shelves. But at $10 less than the Limited Edition, I can’t really recommend this to anyone other than the digital purists.

I will say that I’m surprised that each edition does provide access to the upcoming expansions; The Dark Below and House of Wolves. Retailing for $34.99 this is a plus for anyone looking to pick up Destiny and no one should miss out on this. If you do the math on this you’ll end up spending close to $99 if you get the standard edition of the game at $59.99 and then an extra $34.99 for the Destiny Pass or more if you just purchase the expansions separately at $19.99 apiece.

In addition to the content you also will be eligible to access the upcoming Destiny beta that starts on July 17th for the PlayStation / July 23rd for the Xbox.

That all said, which edition will you end up purchasing?
