Nintendo’s E3 presence is going to have a bit of a hole.

By Keith MitchellJune 6, 2014

With E3 on the horizon, many gamers are wondering what the “Big Three” have up their sleeves this year. In particular, people hope (and pray) that Nintendo will have something that will turn their apparently poor fortune around. Well, whatever they’re gonna do in LA, they’ll have to do it without their Japanese president.

According to what their reps told Polygon today, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata won’t be attending E3 due to health concerns. He’s still working in Japan, but the trip to Los Angeles simply isn’t feasible this time around.

Now, we already know that Nintendo is sticking to their E3 Directs, various livestreams and their presentations of Super Smash Bros. “for” E3 (see what I did there?), but it’s still a shame to hear about this. Considering the rough waters Nintendo is currently swimming through, and the pay cut Iwata-san had to take because of them, this has to be a disappointing pill to swallow for someone.

I, for one, send Iwata-san my best wishes, and hope that  is able to rest up enough to continue to remain an important presence in this industry, for himself, for his family, and for Nintendo.

Hang in there, Iwata-san.

Best Wishes E3 Electronic Entertainment Expo nintendo Satoru Iwata
