Holy Cow! They really did bury those Atari 2600 games in a landfill.

By Keith MitchellApril 26, 2014

You know when I was younger there was always this one legend, this myth that Atari had buried hundreds of copies of their ET game in a landfill. But of course it was just a myth, right? No one would bury games no matter how bad they were into a landfill. Right?

Fast forward 20 years…..

A few weeks ago Microsoft stated that they wanted to dispell the myth, I guess they had some insider knowledge of what exactly happened and annouced that on April 26th, 2014 that they were going to put that myth to rest and finally unearth those copies. Well guess what? It’s April 26th and true to their word Microsoft has gone and done it.

They’ve actually found a copy?

Not only did they actually put this long standing myth to rest but it also looks like they found a few copies of some other games from the Atari 2600 age such as Centipede and Missile Command. I wonder if those games still work. Well damn there goes my childhood at least for this gaming myth.

I guess we can call Microsoft the Indiana Jones of the gaming industry now! For more pics of the event check out Kobunheat’s twitter fed posted below.
