Mad Catz Android powered console launching this December

By Keith MitchellOctober 8, 2013

MadCatz-MOJO2

Sure seems that Android based gaming consoles have become all the rage as of lately. First we had the Ouya, then Gamestick, Nvidia’s Shield and now we have Mad Catz’s entry into the Android gaming world. Announced earlier this year Mad Catz’s own Android system, M.O.J.O, is primed to launch just in time for the holiday season. At a MSRP price of $249.99, this puts it past the price of the Ouya and right in the same ball park as Nvidia’s Shield. It definitely seems that Mad Catz’s heard the complaints against the Ouya during it’s conception process and has seized that opportunity with their console as the M.O.J.O has the following specifications;

  • Nvidia Tegra 4 T4OS 1.8GHz processor
  • 16GB of storage
  • HDMI output
  • 2GB of RAM
  • MicroSD slot
  • Bluetooth
  • USB 2.0 and 3.0 enabled ports
  • Wifi b/g/n

So as you can see there’s definitely some key differences that seperate it from the Ouya, especially the 2GB of RAM and the Tegra 4 T4OS, which puts it as the most powerful console when compared to the Ouya and Gamestick and on par with the Shield. As far as the interface is concerned it seems that it’s just using the default Android  however I can’t speak on it as I haven’t attended any events that had the M.O.J.O on display and can only go off with what I’ve seen on videos. I will say that I enjoy the interface on the Ouya so I hope that Mad Catz’s has polished or will have time to polish the interface. Other than that it looks to be a decent console in a sea of Android based gaming, which I’m not 100% sure that’s a good thing or not as game scene on Android isn’t as robust as it is on Apple’s IOS or conventional consoles and I’m a huge Android fan so it’s a big deal.

Only time will tell.

PS. Mad Catz’s if you’re reading this, we’d love a unit to review ;)
