Over the last few days, IO Interactive have been sharing console gameplay of their upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light. This led some people to speculate on why the game hadn’t gone gold yet; was there a performance issue they were hiding? Was the game really not finished this close to launch?
Thankfully, IO Interactive has now put those worries to rest. Taking to social media, they confirmed that 007 First Light has now gone gold, exactly two weeks before launch.

To be honest, two weeks before launch is standard practice for many games. Going gold means much less these days than it ever has before, because all it really means is that the physical discs are being printed. So, if you never update the game, the build the developers have approved as current is what you will get on disc. However, we live in the digital age where many games require day one patches and an online connection to play. This means that many players never actually play the gold build of a game, and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want a game to be improved after launch via patches?
All this to say that going gold is a major milestone in development timelines, but it’s not something players should really be concerned about.
007 First Light is currently scheduled to release on May 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Nintendo Switch 2 version was delayed and is now expected to launch later in Summer 2026.
