Yeah, that's not what we expected.

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club

Last week, Nintendo fans were dealt a freaky teaser with the question “Who Is Emio?” attached to it. The M-rating and the spooky teaser made people wonder if Nintendo was finally making a 1st party horror franchise again. Well, they were half right, as today, The Big N unveiled Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club. This is the first new entry in the franchise in 30 years, and that’s a big deal for various reasons. Sure, it’s not exactly what people were expecting/hoping for, but it’s still big news.

To further add to the unveiling, the game’s producer, Yoshio Sakamoto, did a brief chat about the new game and what it means to bring the title back after several decades:

Based on his words, it seems like Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club will be a horror/mystery story that won’t be for the faint of heart, yet is built upon the experiences of the game dev team who want to make this the best entry in the franchise. We’ll find out next month if they pull it off!
