The Pokemon Company Drops Shocking Franchise Sales Stat

The hits just keep on coming...
By Todd BlackMay 25, 2024
The Pokemon Company

It’s hard to deny the success that The Pokemon Company has had over the years. Long-time gamers know that the company’s success was not guaranteed when it first launched the Pokemon franchise in Japan. In fact, the first versions got lukewarm results due to various factors. Then, they overhauled it and went worldwide, and the gaming space has never been the same. That brings us to now, where the company has made a shocking revelation about how many units the series has sold across its nearly 30 years of life.

According to The Pokemon Company, they’ve sold over 480 million units within the franchise in its lifetime. That’s across all titles, both mainline and spinoff. Plus, as we noted previously, over 100 million of those units came from the Switch lineup over the last seven years!

Pokémon Company announced that they’ve sold over 480m units of software lifetime.

To put into perspective how successful Switch has been for them, they’ve sold over 100 million units of software (or 20% of their total software) on Switch alone.

Not to mention, there are more Pokemon games coming, including Legends Z-A, which could get the franchise closer to 500 million units sold! No doubt they’ll continue to sell so long as we have to “Catch’em All!”
