Pokemon Anime Producers Talk Potential “Return” Of Ash Ketchum and Pikachu

The Pokemon Company has been working hard on many things to highlight the growth and expansion of the franchise, even with the series drawing ever closer to its 30th anniversary. One of the ways they’re doing it is with their video games, including the recently announced Pokemon Legends ZA. The other way is through the anime, which just debuted a new series via Pokemon Horizons. It marks the first true mainline series since Ash Ketchum and Pikachu helped spark the craze over 25 years ago. But even now, fans want to know if Ash and Pikachu could return one day.

In a conversation with Variety, two producers of the anime, Taito Okiura and Andy Gose, were asked about the new anime, or other parts of the anime franchise, bringing Ash Ketchum and Pikachu back into the mix. They made their stance rather clear with:

“We’ve said farewell. Ash is still in the world. Anything is possible, I suppose. In the world of Pokemon, there’s so many possibilities.”

The other producer added:

“We hope Ash and Pikachu continue in their journey. Their journey is ongoing somewhere in the Pokemon world. It’s totally up to our fans’ imagination. For the time being, we would love to focus on the new story of the Liko and Roy. Horizons invites a new beginning.”

To be clear, that’s totally fair. Many are likely hoping Ash returns because his final episodes via “To be A Pokemon Master” weren’t exactly high-quality. They were a filler-fest of episodes, and many feel Ash deserves a better ending. Like they said, anything is possible!
