The Last Of Us Gets Season 3 Renewal

Another season to flesh things out.
By Todd BlackApril 9, 2025
The Last of Us, The Last Of Us Season 2

When The Last of Us came out on HBO and Max a few years back, it was a big deal. It was easily one of, if not the, best video game adaptations ever. It was so good that it got nominated for awards and even won some of them. This was proof that great storytelling and sticking to the source material, while improving things in a fair way, can be a recipe for success. It’s taken a while to get here, but we’re only a few days away from the premiere of Season on HBO and Max, and fans are rightfully excited about it.

However, there’s another thing to be excited about, because as Deadline notes, The Last of Us Season 3 has officially been greenlit before Season 2 even premieres! It’s honestly fair that this is happening because the team behind the game have already noted that the second season WON’T cover all the events from the second game. Instead, they’re spreading it out across a few seasons, and this ensures that happens. Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, noted this in a statement about the renewal:

“It can’t be overemphasized how proud HBO is for the outstanding achievement we believe the second season of The Last of Us is. Craig, Neil, Carolyn and the entire executive producer team, cast and crew have delivered a masterful follow-up and we’re thrilled to carry the power of Craig and Neil’s storytelling into what we know will be an equally moving and extraordinary third season.”

We’ll be sure to have our review of the season up when the seven episodes have aired. In the meantime, check out our review of Season 1!
