Out Of Time Hands-Off Preview The First Preview

By Scott AdamsJuly 23, 2025
Game Preview template for Out of Time

Thanks to Manticore Games, we got a nice look at the upcoming roguelite, Out of Time. This game is centered around an event called “The Shattering” that has created a rip in the space-time fabric, which allows you to travel to different eras of time, defeating monsters, and collecting loot.

The main hub of the game is a place called Infinitopia, and is the only known place that wasn’t affected by the Shattering. This is where you can team up with friends and allies and travel to other eras of time. This hub gets bigger and bigger as the game goes on, and you can see other eras within it.

Building Your Character

There are no classes in Out of Time; all stats and abilities are determined by the gear you wear and the weapons you have equipped. There are tank outfits, or damage outfits, or support outfits. You can mix and match to customize your character as you see fit. I asked about a Transmog system and if they were planning to include that in the game. The answer I got back was, “At launch, there will be some simple options from various body types, hair, color, and eye options. We have plans in the future to have a deeper transmog system for folks to fully customize their look in the future.” Essentially, your avatar can be changed, but outfits are going to be tied at launch to the gear you wear.

This game can be played with parties of up to four players. When you begin a zone to search in, all players’ characters start at level one. Each player is tethered to the others when close, and the passives of the gear are shared with the whole party. This is an interesting mechanic, and it is hinted that there is more to the tether than what we see in the zone’s combat alone. This adds incentive to have your party well-rounded. If you have a character with lots of tanking gear, it provides those defensive buffs to everyone.

While the game is in early access, there are three eras that you’ll be able to travel to: Modern, Post-Apocalyptic, and Medieval Fantasy.

As you level up in the map, your stats get better. Every five times you level up, you unlock a card. You can choose which card out of a selection of them to apply for. Some cards help out the passives of your entire team, and some cards may only help out your ability cooldowns or power. There are areas where you can rescue a historical figure, and if you are successful, you also unlock a new card.

Fighting Through The Eras

When you are in a zone of combat for your run, you can level up, but so can the enemy mobs. These mobs will make it so you don’t get too comfortable with a build and try to make you stay focused on combat. Your basic attacks are automated and are based on the attack speed of your weapon. You can have up to four abilities to use. These abilities are based on the gear you have on your character. Your abilities are not automated, and you’ll need to select your ability as well as what you are targeting with it.

You get gear by defeating the bosses in these runs. Each boss you defeat will drop the exact amount of gear as there are players in your party. So four is the max. Gear isn’t limited to one per character. If there is an amazing legendary drop of gear from a boss, then all four players can benefit by selecting it and adding it to their inventory.

Being Out Of Time

Out of Time will be a premium game, priced at $24.99, and will be released in Fall 2025. If you pre-purchase the game, you’ll score three mounts, three emotes, and four avatars for your character in the game. Infinitopia is a social hub, but it will change over time and will warrant players to keep coming back to see what happens in Infinitopia. Out of Time launches as an Epic Store exclusive, but will eventually arrive on Steam later, and then on consoles as well.

Out of Time, when launched, will be a hybrid purchase game. Part of the game will be free to play and won’t require you to spend money to play. The other part of the game will be purchasable. The free-to-play part of the game is the PvP that we know of. Other modes may be free to play as well, but the main loop that is PvE will be the part of the game that requires you to buy it.

You can unlock other avatars by collecting the full sets of gear you can find from bosses. There will be a guild system eventually implemented, but it won’t be until after launch. Difficulty modes are Normal, Hard, and Shattered 1 through Shattered 100. With each number after Shattered, it becomes more and more difficult.

You can pre-purchase Out of Time at the Epic Store right now. It will be released in Fall 2025.
