There’s been PLENTY of talk recently about the state of the gaming industry and whether anyone “really cares about making games the right way” anymore. The answer is thankfully, “yes,” and we discussed on the latest episode of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast that Nintendo is one company that does care about doing it the right way. Yesterday, we talked about how Shigeru Miyamoto advises younger developers to think of the “consumer first instead of their boss,” and now, from that same shareholder Q&A, we have insights from Shinya Takahashi, who oversees all software creation at the company.
As you’ll see in the post below, the “development culture” of Nintendo is focused on working with developers to bring out the most in their games, including sharing notions and opinions, regardless of their job function.” Shinya Takahashi states that he hopes that young developers will “grow” from the experience, and that this kind of idea sharing even happens with hardware:

This is the exact opposite of things we’ve heard from companies like Xbox, EA, and even Sony at times, with things like Concord. They’re focused on cranking out titles, regardless of quality, at times, and when things go wrong, they blame the team instead of the higher-ups who forced them to do these acts.
Takahashi may not take the spotlight as much as others at Nintendo, but he clearly is a driving force behind all the good that goes on there.
