MindsEye Looks Interesting In Shiny New Trailer

By Jordan AndowMay 28, 2025
MindsEye Key Art - A New Game From Former GTA Developer

MindsEye is brand-new Grand Theft Auto like open-world game, developed by Build A Rocket Boy. The studio is led by Leslie Benzies, who is famous for his work on GTA, Red Dead Redemption and other Rockstar Games titles.

I’ve had my eye on MindsEye for quite some time, and I’m excited to see what it offers. Even when the majority of hands-off previews recently were negative, everything I was seeing looked better than what people have been saying. Then earlier today, Build A Rocket Boy and publisher IOI Partners decided to release a new trailer for MindsEye filled with gameplay, cinematics and something even more interesting.

For me, the game looks like a mix of Grand Theft Auto and Watchdogs, which are both games I’ve enjoyed. Does the combat look somewhat dated, yes, but not by a huge margin. It looks similar to Mafia III, and if it feels that way, I’ll be ok with it. The truth is, we won’t know for sure until we get our hands on the game ourselves.

What surprised me more than anything was what came towards the end of this trailer.

That’s right, MindsEye will allow players to build their own content within the open-world of the game, separate from MindsEye‘s campaign. You may think to yourself, “Games have done that before” and that is true. From skate parks in Tony Hawk to jump ramps in GTA and more, games have allowed you to build your own content to some degree for years. That being said, no game, outside of DREAMS has ever placed such a focus on allowing players to create. If done right, and the tool set is good, this could lead to some truly amazing content for MindsEye from players.

They only showed a glimpse of what is possible in the “Build” mode for MindsEye, alongside confirming that the tools to build content will only be available on PC. Unfortunately, it hasn’t yet been made clear if all the created content will only be playable on PC, but I hope not. Personally, I’d like to see them have a community creations server that players can download any created content to play, regardless of device. Similar to how the WWE 2K games have handled community-powered content for a long time now.

Only time will tell, but barring any last-minute delays, we don’t have too long to wait. MindsEye is scheduled to launch on June 10th, 2025. Players can pre-order now on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation, and follow updates on X, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.

Jordan has been playing games since the age of six. This ignited a passion which initially led him towards game development before trying his hand in the realm of games media, starting in 2022. It turns out he's quite good at it, even if he doesn't always believe in himself. Now, just a few short years later, not only is Jordan a valued member of our staff here at The Outerhaven, but he also co-owns and helps to run Analog Stick Gaming.
