I’m not the biggest buff when it comes to scrutinizing controllers, but I find third-party controllers quite fascinating, especially when they exhibit unique features. In this instance, the Manba Mini Controller stands out, particularly when compared to first-party controllers for the Nintendo Switch.

The Manba Multi-Platform Mini Controller is a Bluetooth-enabled device that can be paired with a Nintendo Switch, a Windows PC, or a Mac. The pairing process is straightforward, requiring a specific button combination for each device. Once paired, it can be instantly turned on and ready for use.
At first glance, it looks more like a toy than an actual controller. Resembling something you might give to a child, it provides a surreal experience when activated and used as a functioning controller.
Why Does This Exist?
Notably, the Manba Mini Controller lacks analog sticks, making it incompatible with most modern games that require them. Surprisingly, though, I tested it on various games, including Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The Nintendo Switch recognized it as a Pro Controller, allowing it to pair and work seamlessly with every game, even those that don’t officially support it.
The ideal use for this controller is with the Nintendo Switch Online service, especially for classic games such as NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and GBA titles, where it performs admirably.
How Does It Feel?
Despite its appearance, the Manba Mini Controller’s buttons feel solid, providing a satisfying click with some heft. The face buttons, d-pad, and + and – buttons are well-designed. However, the L and R buttons, while generally of decent quality, had occasional sticking issues.
During extended play sessions, hand cramping can be an issue. The battery life lasts about 8 hours per session, but I recommend using it for turn-based games to alleviate hand strain. The controller is compact enough to cover with just one hand, making it suitable for various games.
Bluetooth connectivity is smooth, with no noticeable latency issues. The lack of heft doesn’t compromise durability, as the controller survived a drop test without any damage.
The Verdict?
Having a small, affordable controller in my backpack for both my laptop and Nintendo Switch is a win. If you prefer a d-pad over the Joycon’s single analog stick, this controller is a solid choice. Priced under $20, it’s a reasonable investment for classic games or indie titles that don’t require analog sticks. However, it’s not the ideal choice for AAA titles that heavily rely on analog controls.
