Original Story: There are certain video games that are truly “timeless.” As in, they stand above just about everything else that came before it, and inspired everything that came after it. Chrono Trigger is one such title. The RPG was made by a “dream team” of creators and did things that video games didn’t do at the time, including having numerous endings, various paths to follow, player input truly affecting the plot, etc. The game is so beloved that it’s been ported to numerous systems over the years, and yet, the hope that many have had is for a remaster/remake to come to modern systems.
Well, on that note, Yuji Horii, the creator of Dragon Quest and the scenario writer for a certain RPG, seemed to reveal at Comic Con Naples that a Chrono Trigger remake is happening!
Apparently Yuji Horii confirmed a Chrono Trigger remake during an interview at Comicon Naples. He then said through translator "You have heard nothing" after apparently realizing what just happenedhttps://t.co/N1PEZkuB5Uhttps://t.co/gvrGAn8XGx pic.twitter.com/0oB4cjMxiE

Sorry, Yuji, but we DID hear something from you and we’re excited. Square Enix did tease that something would be done with the series to celebrate its upcoming anniversary, but fans weren’t sure what was planned. Now, the path seems pretty clear. Many are already freaking out about this, including my fellow Nintendo Entertainment Podcast co-host, Scott, who couldn’t believe it when the info leaked out.
UPDATE: Sadly, it was later confirmed that we did NOT get this announcement, it was a mistranslation by the actual translator! Go figure:
Late update: footage from the event is out, and Horii himself never actually says anything about a remake of Chrono Trigger (like at all—it was all the interpreter). Sorry to burst everyone's bubble. Link: https://t.co/HOLlajj1i0
