Brian Cox Gives Us A Synapse of The Tekken Story

By Kevin KellyJanuary 10, 2024

Tekken’s story is heralded as the longest-running story ever to come out of a video game. Even the Guinness Book of Records has stated this as fact. The King of The Iron Fist Tournament has had its’ share of tales within itself. The Mishimas have included ancient demons, cybernetic ninjas, telepathic bears, re-created fighting dinosaurs, Robocops gone wrong, and assassins who don’t die nor age into their story.

Yes, this is still about Tekken.

Tekken's Kazuya Mishima

What better way to catch up than with legendary actor Brian Cox. Narrated by him, the Tekken story is retraced back to its’ roots with clips from previous games through this trailer. Cox has credits in Killzone and Manhunt games. Getting celebrities to jump into the action to hype. Something that Bandai Namco has been doing alot of in their ads since Elden Ring’s Ming Na Wen spot.  The Boys’ Karl Urban and The Office’s Rain Wilson also did a few commercials for Armored Core 6. A Trip Down Memory Bouts

Several pivotal moments have been dug up from the crates. Mostly surrounding the Mishimas and the table-turning that seemed to happen throughout the games. As nostalgic as we can go, from the debut to some current FMVs. Some of them are even from the recap black and white clips from Tekken 7 and Tekken 8. Seeing some of these, such as Heihachi’s Tekken 2 climb, was a trip for me. Tekken 4, 5, and 6, are given blur treatments here.

It was definitely worth the price of admission to see someone literally recap 30 years of a video game’s story history in 5 minutes. Especially with the History Television feel that Cox is clearly providing. Gaming has come nearly full circle with its movie counterparts, and I’m here for it.

The epicness of this trailer sets the stage for January 26th when Tekken 8 breaks into the PlayStation 5, X Box Series X | S, and Steam.
