Are We Getting Some Sonic The Hedgehog Spinoff Films Soon?

Shadow First, And Then...?

Sonic The Hedgehog 3

We all knew it was inevitable. The question was, “When would the shoe finally drop?” We’re obviously referencing the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action films that Paramount has been making since 2020. Sure, they had a BIG faux pas to start via Sonic’s original look…but they fixed it! Since then, they’ve had three incredibly successful theatrical releases, with each one making more than the last. To that end, the fourth film is set to arrive in 2024 and will bring Metal Sonic and Amy Rose to the mix. Yet, that’s not all Paramount has planned…

As noted by The Wrap, Paramount is apparently up for doing a spinoff film alongside the next mainline entry. You could argue that this was “spurred on” by the success of Mario and Minecraft in theaters, but again, this truly was inevitable. Paramount had a “test run” with the Knuckles miniseries on Paramount+, but now is the time to go bigger.

So, who will get the spinoff touch? The obvious answer is Shadow the Hedgehog. He was the most beloved character of the third film, and Keanu Reeves did an incredible job voicing the pain-filled hedgehog on the big screen. Plus, as the post-credits sequence revealed, he’s very much alive after the film’s climax. Thus, now is the time to not just bring him back, but expand his own roster of allies. Rogue the Bat, Gamma, and others come to mind. After him…? Well, you could do a Silver entry, or maybe one dedicated to Tails, so that our beloved fox isn’t left out of the solo spotlight. Only time will tell what they choose.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4, meanwhile, will release in 2027.
