AMD Is At It Again. This Time They’re Offering To Swap Your Core i7-8086k For A Ryzen Threadripper 1950X

If you’ve followed the PC space, either it is for productivity or gaming, then you know the impact that AMD’s Ryzen line-up has had. Offering some really amazing performance and coming in cheaper than their Intel counterparts. I haven’t seen AMD being this worthwhile, well since the days of the Duron and Sempron. Apparently, AMD wants everyone to know that they’re playing for keeps and they’re being very savage this time around.

In a recent tweet, they’re offering to swap your Intel Core i7-8086k for their Ryzen Threadripper 1950X. That is if you qualify. I kid you not.

Celebrating the past is neat, but here at AMD we are focused on the future and the next 40 years of high-performance computing. Exchange your prize for a Threadripper 1950X processor!

First 40 qualify. 18+ & 50 U.S./D.C. only. Learn more at: https://t.co/1Czuo4B4Zf pic.twitter.com/TSgImTwPeO

Going to the contest page, AMD goes on to troll Intel pretty hard.

Our competitor recently kicked off a sweepstakes to celebrate the first 40 years of the x86 processor by giving away 8,086 limited edition processors.

We appreciate the advancements they’ve helped drive with the x86 architecture over the last four decades. But, we’re ready to take it from here. That’s why we’re giving 40 performance-hungry enthusiasts in the U.S. an opportunity to celebrate the next 40 years of high-performance computing by trading in their commemorative processor prize for our CPU that enables you to work, play and create with heavy metal.

We’ll let the numbers do the talking: 16 cores. 32 threads. 64 PCIe Gen3 lanes. 40MB cache. Need more? Unrestrained performance for all your workloads. AMD SenseMI technology‡ that leverages machine intelligence to customize performance. The Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 1950X is a game-changer.

Those are definitely fighting words, AMD is definitely being bold. However, this contest is only available to those who’ve already won an Intel Core i7-8086K from Intel already. It’s also only open to those in those in the U.S, nowhere else. Lastly, out of those 8086 people, only the first 40 will be able to claim their price from AMD. That is if they want to do the trade. Still, it’s pretty hilarious to see AMD stepping up like that. A far cry from the Athlon and Bulldozer days, that’s for sure.

So, if you’re one of the Intel winners and are thinking about trading with AMD, head on over to their website here for more details.

Update: Looks like Intel didn’t take that lying down.  This is really cool to see both companies going after each other.

.@AMDRyzen, if you wanted an Intel Core i7-8086K processor too, you could have just asked us. :) Thanks for helping us celebrate the 8086! pic.twitter.com/ZKKayaws7u
