A Few Things To Know About Tekken 7 On PC

By Keith MitchellMay 29, 2017

With Tekken 7 coming out later this week, there’s a battle to be waged. As we all know, the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions will not be able to play with each – there’s no cross-platform support. That said, we already know that the PS4 and Xbox One versions will be popular, but what about the PC version? With that added graphical fidelity, higher frame rate and access to tons of gamepads/joysticks, it should be the clear winner or at least a very popular choice, right?

Well, there’s a few pro/cons that were recently brought to light, so let’s discuss those.

On the graphics front, Tekken 7 on the PC will sport a consistent 60FPS. It will also include a host of options, such as 1080p and up to 4K resolution support. This is a leap over the console versions, which are good looking as well, but only support 900p (PS4). Meanwhile on the PC, if you have the hardware, you’ll be able to push the envelope and play Tekken 7 with all graphic options maxed. For those rocking a 4K monitor, the experience will be even better. Keep in mind that if you want to play at 4K, a GTX 1080 Ti is recommended, followed up by the GTX 1080 with lowered settings.

Here are the graphical options that are available for Tekken 7 on PC.

  • Rendering Scale
  • Anti-Aliasing
  • Shadow Settings
  • Texture Quality
  • Effect Quality
  • Post-Processing Quality
  • Dynamic Adjustment
  • Motion blur

That said, don’t try and play at the highest setting if you don’t have the hardware. It’s going to make your Tekken 7 PC experience a bad one. The game also features an in-game FPS meter. I know many PC gamers typically use FRAPs, MSI Afterburner or another FPS display, still, it is nice to see this was added.

The PC version will also support pre-loads. That way you won’t be stuck waiting for the game to download on June 2nd. There wasn’t any mention as to when the pre-load will start, but seeing how we’re less than five days away. I’d imagine this will be soon. Funny though, while the release date isn’t until June 2nd, Steam is showing it as releasing on June 1st. Perhaps this is a worldwide release?

Speaking about Steam, Tekken 7 will include several goodies such as Steam cards, emotes and backgrounds.

Want to play Tekken 7 with a keyboard? Well, you can, how about that? Yes, Tekken 7 will include both keyboard and gamepad/joystick support. Though there won’t be any mouse support, who wants to play a fighting game with a mouse? So get your Hori’s, your Madcatz (RIP), or whatever is your weapon of choice.

So far, everything is sounding really good, right? Well, with every pro, there is a con. While having games, especially popular ones on the PC is a blessing, sadly piracy also rears its ugly head. This has been an issue that dates back pretty far. To combat this, more and more companies are turning to DRM to help protect their product. Tekken 7 will incorporate Denuvo – yes, I know. Get it out of your system, because that’s not changing. Denuvo has been increasingly popular for developers and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. The downside is that with this in place, we can kiss any mods for the game goodbye. The way that the DRM works is that it prevents anything from hooking to the game files – an anti-tamper. Now, I’m not here to complain about the DRM or to say boycott Tekken 7 on PC, I’m just making you aware.

So far, Tekken 7 looks like it will be a great addition to the PC library. I’m definitely picking it up, for benchmarks and that oh so lovely 4K. Will you be picking it up on PC, or console? Either way, everyone should check out this game, if there into fighters.

Be sure to check out our full review of Tekken 7 once it is released.
