Marvel Announces the Main Cast of “Runaways”

By Sara Roncero-MenendezFebruary 4, 2017

There’s no stopping the Marvel train as it continues to roll out new franchises. Case in point, Marvel’s Runaways is a new TV show. Based on the award winning series by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, six teenagers soon discover their parents are villains and have to fight back against them.

The cast is mainly comprises of actors best known for roles on other teen-centric shows, which could be a good or a very bad thing. There is, however, some solid diversity happening, and the team has more women than men. Marvel might have finally gotten the message from fans complaining on it’s lack of range, or it could be because this diversity is pre-built into the comic.

The cast members are as follows:

  • Rhenzy Feliz (“Teen Wolf,” “Casual”) as Alex Wilder
  • Lyrica Okano (“The Affair,” “Unforgettable”) Nico Minoru
  • Virginia Gardner (“Goat,” “Little Bitches”) as Karolina Dean
  • Ariela Barer (“New Girl,” “One Day at a Time”) as Gert Yorkes
  • Gregg Sulkin (“Faking It,” “Don’t Hang Up,” “Anti Social”) as Chase Stein
  • Allegra Acosta (“100 Things to do Before High School,” “Just Add Magic”) as Molly Hernandez

Vaughn, who is a series executive consultant on the show, seems to be pretty happy with the choices:

“I’m so excited for fans of the comic to watch this perfect cast of amazing actors, all of whom embody the spirit of their characters more than I ever could have imagined.”

The show also seems like it will be geared more towards teens than adults, with showerunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, best known for their work on shows like The O.C. and Gossip Girl. Does that mean that this series will get the Riverdale treatment? It’s hard to tell, but with Marvel at the reigns, it is unlikely.

The series was ordered by Hulu, so it will be on a separate service from the other Marvel shows. There is no release date at this time.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
